1.
Up on a bar stool, drinking a cold brew
  Watching the girls down below
Swimsuits and tank tops, bright summer dresses
  Dancing along with the show

2.
Sun-tinted long hair, slim sun-tanned arms
  Moving in time gracefully
Then I spied the girl in the Black Leather Coat
And she smiled right up at me

chorus 1 Black Leather Coat, Black Leather Coat
There's something about a Black Leather Coat
Pretty girls dancing but I wanted more
Then the Black Leather Coat hit the floor

3.
It seems years later, we're up in my room
I got a lump in my throat
When she smiled and asked, "Is this what you want?"
Then took off the Black Leather Coat

chorus 2 Oh, Black Leather Coat, Black Leather Coat
There's something about a Black Leather Coat
Yeah I loved her face but I wanted more
Then the Black Leather Coat hit the floor

bridge Legs that appealed to me
  Now were revealed to me
  What was concealed was much
More than I dreamed would be

4.
Dreams for the future, dreams from my past
Dreams that would all end that day
The last thing I saw was the Black Leather Coat
When she turned and walked away

chorus 3 Black Leather Coat, Black Leather Coat
There's something about a Black Leather Coat
That's when she said. "Leave 'em still wanting more"
Then the Black Leather Coat hit the door

coda Yeah, she said that she leaves them still wanting more
Then the Black Leather Coat hit the door

"I went to a Bob Dylan birthday concert to hear Terry Dalton. There I heard 'Man in the Long Black Coat' and visualized my black leather trench coat." — San

Sandy gave J.J. the first draft of Black Leather Coat and asked for a man's point of view. He wrote the music and the two worked together on revising the lyrics and adding a bridge.

Terry Dalton's suggestions became the part of the chorus, but he didn't want to be listed as a songwriter.

Airplay:
  • Black Leather Coat was aired on "Click Your Heels Together," KVMR, Nevada City, on May 9, 2010.
